Formed by Max Gort-Barten, the Dualit company has been in business since 1946 when it first started producing the patented flip-sided toaster for the commercial market. It quickly expanded its line into other successful items, which were still primarily aimed at the commercial market until the 1970s. At that time, consumers wanted Dualit products, such as the six-slice toaster, in their homes. During the 1970s and 1980s, Dualit consumer products were in huge demand, and the company responded with great ingenuity and new designs in a few areas including toasters, fans, and accessories.
This demand has not ceased, and in the 1990s the line of Dualit kettles was introduced. The award-winning company has striven to constantly innovate, using the best of modern technology and retaining professional artists to improve and maintain their unique, retro look. This has helped to generate some of their best products without abandoning the company’s aesthetic.
The Dualit Kettle comes in sizes from 1 to 2 liters capacity. The smaller sizes of 1 and 1.5 liters are jug kettles, and the larger dome kettles come in 1.7 and 2 liters. Each design has similar features and varies mostly in the size capacity, though the jug kettles are also available in colored versions that do not feature the distinct look of the shining stainless steel construction of the others.
They all have a viewing window with marked cup levels to ensure you fill it to only the amount needed, high quality stainless steel construction, and a heatproof knob on the hinged lid. The heating elements are concealed, built in, quickly bring water to a boil, and will cut out if the kettle boils dry. They also boast a cordless design.
Both jug and dome kettles are ergonomically designed to prevent injuries and reduce any risk from using them as directed and feature safety guards to prevent accidental burns. The jug kettles are space saving while the dome kettles are in a more traditional teapot shape, yet both designs still retain Dualit’s retro-modern aesthetic.
In addition to their home water kettles, Dualit also makes 6, 10, and 11 liter soup kettles. The 6 liter design is great for home use and, of course, has the Dualit feel. The larger kettles have a classic black cauldron look and are great for preparing meals ahead of time or serving large numbers of people. All of Dualit’s products are widely available, and they will provide a product catalog upon request.
